Home Care

Home care involves you regularly taking the time to care for your teeth and prevent any dental health problems. Keeping your teeth healthy is very important, as damaged or decaying teeth can cause a host of problems, making it difficult or even painful to eat or speak and requiring expensive procedures to resolve the issue. Not only is it important for you to take care of your teeth, but it’s also crucial that you stop by our offices for your regular checkup.

What You Can Do

Preventative care starts at home. Daily brushing can go a long way towards ensuring that your teeth are strong and healthy. Make sure you use a fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association. Also, it’s generally a good idea to change toothbrushes every three or four months, or whenever the bristles start to fray. Frayed bristles mean your brush will not be as effective at keeping your teeth clean and removing plaque, meaning that even a thorough brushing with the right toothpaste can be rendered meaningless by a bad brush. You should also make sure to floss regularly, since flossing will keep the tight spaces your brush can’t reach clean and free of plaque. Braces can make flossing difficult, however, so people with braces may need to consider special floss threaders to floss effectively and keep their teeth clean and healthy. Since dental hygiene is so important, it’s also a good idea to teach children how to take care of their teeth at a young age. Otherwise, it’s very possible they could be dealing with dental problems for the rest of their lives. It’s also very helpful to make sure your diet is balanced and healthy, as this gives your teeth and gums the nutrients and vitamins they need to stay strong.

What We Can Do To Help You

But just as important is your regular checkup. We can examine and clean your teeth more thoroughly than you can, meaning we can get rid of any buildup that’s gotten past you, as well as allowing us to detect potential problems and deal with them early on. Depending on your circumstances, we’ll suggest that you come in for a regular checkup either once or twice a year.
