A permanent solution for tooth loss.
Dental implants represent a common procedure of permanently replacing missing teeth without affecting neighboring teeth.
If you have missing teeth but don’t feel like you can deal with dentures, then dental implants just might be the perfect solution for you. Implants are comfortable, durable, and permanent. In fact, they’re much more durable than dentures, and they still feel exactly like your regular teeth. They even look and act just like natural teeth, which means that you can brush, floss, speak easily, and eat whatever you want. For the most part, dental implants are also much stronger and more durable than natural teeth, meaning that implants are a very effective, permanent solution to the loss of teeth. Some patients even forget that their implants aren’t their normal teeth.
What are Dental Implants?
Implants are connected directly to your jawbone to help support a dental prosthesis. We use a process called osseointegration to cause the ceramics, titanium, and other components of your implant to bond with the bone in your jaw or skull. The implant will be firmly anchored into the bone and won’t budge, so your dental implants won’t just look like natural teeth, but act and feel just like them as well, since they are integrated into the bone like normal teeth. Implants can also be used to help support dentures in some situations, but implant dentistry is usually permanent. Your implants can be cleaned, treated, and repaired just like any other tooth.
Is There Anything Else I Need to Know?
At Santa Monica Family Dentistry, our friendly and courteous staff will provide you with dental implants that suit your exact needs, whatever they are. Expect the process to take anywhere from six to eight months, though the exact time depends on the specific case. Usually, implant dentistry won’t interfere significantly with your schedule, so you’re free to live your life as you please in the meantime. Implant dentistry is very expensive, though, more expensive than most other forms of tooth replacement. But many patients believe that the benefits are more than enough to justify the costs.
