At Santa Monica Family Dentistry, we use some of the most advanced technology available to make treatment as quick and comfortable as possible for our patients. Digital X-rays give us a wide variety of advanced options that not only reduce the level of radiation our patients are exposed to, but also save time and produce much clearer pictures in the end. Because of this, we can make more accurate determinations about what exactly is going on inside your mouth, allowing us to make better diagnoses and treat you more effectively.
How Digital X-Rays Work
As with traditional X-rays, your dentist will place a sensor in your mouth to take pictures of your teeth. The sensor is connected to a computer and transmits the images directly to your dentist’s computer screen. That’s it. It’s as simple as that!
Higher Quality and Greater Efficiency
Images from Digital X-rays are much higher quality than normal X-rays, allowing us to view your X-rays in greater detail than ever before. This also makes small cavities and other easy-to-miss abnormalities easier to see, as your dentist can easily zoom in on the image and closely examine each part of your teeth. And since there is no film involved, you won’t have to wait around while the pictures are developed. The pictures are ready instantly and transmitted to your dentist’s computer, meaning that, the instant the picture is taken, you and your dentist can immediately view your X-rays. You can imagine how much shorter your visit will be as a result.
Safe for Our Patients and for the Planet
To top it all off, digital X-rays are more environmentally friendly, since they don’t require chemicals to develop any film, and also exposes our patients to significantly less radiation than normal X-rays. Traditional X-ray procedures are already quite safe, but if you’re still concerned about radiation and its effects, then digital X-rays just might be exactly what you’ve been looking for!
No More Waiting!
Digital X-rays are also much easier to transfer, as they are already in the computer and can be quickly emailed to specialists who might need to take a look at them. No more waiting for the postal service to transfer your X-rays before you can get a second opinion!
We also offer traditional dental X-rays as well, using film rather than sensors and digital recorders. Both forms of X-rays are quick, safe, and effective, but most patients consider Digital X-rays to be faster and more convenient overall.
